This is one of the best nice-looking finishing of travertine. The size of the tiles are 12 x 12 inch (30,5 x 30,5cm) and the thickness is 1,0 cm . Travertine tiles are filled and honed. The 4 sides of the tile are bevelled as low as 1,5-2mm.
This kind of finishing is called as "fayans". It is used in interior design, especially in bathrooms and kitchens.

This finishing is mostly required when the cutting is vein cutting. The holes of the tiles are not filled.
While polishing, in the polishing machine after the calibrating; 60,120,180,220,320,480,600 and polishing abrasives are used.
After the polishing process, the travertine tiles come out shiny.

This is a standart type of finishing for the travertine tiles and can be applied to any sizes. After the filling the tiles are honed using 80, 120, 180 and 220 abrasives and another kind of special abrasive just for honing. After the processes the tiles come out not shiny but matte.

This is one of the most beautiful finishings of the travertine tiles too. The filling of the tile is made by transparent resin and not with cement. Tiles look very shiny and when you look at the tiles you see all the holes on it as if it is not filled however when you inspect it, you realise all the holes are filled.
As filling material mostly epoxy or polyester is being used. We suggest you to have the tiles filled with epoxy rather than polyester since after several years, there is a big risk for polyester to become yellowish and not more transparent.
The process is like that: First one side of the tile is covered by cement. Then you fill the holes on the other side with transparent resin. You wait for a while( 1 day is ideal) then you pour resin again to the tiles to make secure of filling all the holes. After the resin dries, the polishing and trimming are applied to the tiles.
In our world now, there are modern machines for applying transparent resin to the tiles avoiding you to wait the tiles drying since these machines consist of special designed owens for drying.

In this type of finishing, the sides of the travertine tiles are broken with a machine as if they are hammered.
So that the tiles have an appereance of historical look. This finishing is ideal for french size sets.
It can be applied to any size actually.
Usually with this type of finihing, neither filling nor honing are applied. Instead; special brushing method is applied.
Brushing means; in the polishing machines, special designed hard abrasives are used to give a look to th etiles as if they were polished with a brush. This gives the tiles an old and historsical look too.
Sometimes; brushed materials may be called as patinato too.
